ABOUT
Blood Bears started out as a project during the first part of Covid. I wanted to make a blind box toy or vinyl toy. Blind box toys or vinyl toys are collectable designer toys for adults/teenagers. I was interested in polar bears and started drawing them all the time. I had also wanted to expand my art skills during quarantine by learning how to sculpt.
Why Blood? Why Blood Bears? Because in the wild, when a bear finds you, it does not kill you and then eat you. It just eats you. When people think bear, they think teddy bear, and that’s wrong. People need to respect wildlife more and maybe be more afraid. That is why there is both blood and cuteness.

My drawings were originally of a polar bear traveling or doing something. As I thought about my toy concept, I drew adorable bears in action. I drew realistic bears as well, but my favorites were the adorable ones.

BOX DESIGN
I wanted my boxes to refer to blind box history, which is actually graffiti art. Famous graffiti artists actually started vinyl toys and blind boxes. I wanted to add a graffiti looking style to the box and logo. Since a lot of animals come out at night and so do graffiti artists, I put the scene at night but made it in the forest to give it a more bear-like feeling to it.
